Guitar Hero III is an excellent game. With a few improvements from the last game, these improvements further propel Guitar Hero towards an even bigger pop culture hit with wondrous ingenuity.
The graphics are fine. To compare the graphics to any other game series would be a moot comparison, but in comparison to the previous Guitar Hero it is a considerable improvement. I recently tried to finish off GH2 on expert and the difference in graphics was such a turn off that I didn't even try to play GH2. The main improvement is that the white circles in the middle of the notes now glow bright in GH3 to indicate a hammer-on or pull-off. Otherwise, graphics in games like this shouldn't make or break a score.
The sound in this game is entirely based on the voice overs. Sometimes the songs in GH3 sound more heavy and digitally remastered than their original counterparts, which isn't bad, but maybe for authenticities sake. And other times the voice overs just don't quiet sound the same as the real song.
The controls are excellent. I mean hell it's a guitar controller. The controls couldn't be any more simple and it provides nearly instantaneous fun for a beginner. Only problem is, well it's a matter of the learning curve for higher difficulties, is that you need to teach yourself a slew of things, such as the blue and orange buttons, as well as strumming up and down.
The story is well... Non-existent. It's not horrible, after all the games about the songs, not really about the story. But for the sake of not giving this game a high 90s score, I rated the story an 8, because it's merely 5-6 cut scenes showing a band progressing from garage practices to world stages. Not to interesting or important at all, but I didn't give it a crap rating because story doesn't matter in this game.
This game is absolutely fun. The main reason being the music. Everyone loves music and everyone wishes they could play their favorite songs. Well now you can with Guitar Hero! Plus easy is easy enough were nearly anyone can learn it and have fun, while advanced users can continue on to medium, hard, and expert.
The replay value is tremendous. Just like listening to songs, playing them over and over doesn't get boring. However the songs do get harder on subsequent difficulties, providing the allure that keeps people hooked. Except expert is damn near impossible to beat except for the best players.
I have a feeling that Guitar Hero Aerosmith is going to be a big failure because it's like 3 out of every 5 songs in a set are Aerosmith songs, and all my friends don't like that. I don't mind, but I think just a simple GH4 would have worked better.
I have never played it, but have thought I would like to try.

You really should. Even if you're just playing on easy, Guitar Hero or Rock Band is great fun. Hell, especially Rock Band, it's loads of fun when you have a whole band setup going.
I think the only thing that really disappoints me about GH is the lack of new downloadable content. Thats the thing that entirely sold me with Rock Band is that they have new stuff every Tuesday. And the ability to get an entire album. I can't wait to buy the cars.
Yeah I've only experienced one problems with Rockband DLC. I downloaded about 7 songs already on my account, while my brother downloaded about 7 on his live account. Well something happened and a lot if not all of the downloadable songs aren't playing, so we have to redownload them. Unfortunately about half the songs we downloaded we can't get back again unless my brother gets live. I'm going to try and use a one month free gold trial or something for him.
